Barclay Crenshaw – Sleepy Kids

songs-to-dance-to

Barclay Crenshaw, aka Claude VonStroke, drops his first song, “Sleepy Kids” under his real name. It’s a departure from the usual CVS style we all know and love, swapping out the four-to-the-floor beat of house music in favor of an ambient, key driven track, shiny and lovely and packing some real emotion under the surface. Barclay is experimenting and I am excited!

S2D2 Vol 74

1. Fatboy Slim – Praise You Right Now (Dunisco Remix)
A mashup of two great Fatboy Slim songs to get this week started off on some hype!

2. Andrew Luce – Babygirl
Heavy, bass-driven remix of a classic. Turn the volume up on this one.

3. Rihanna – Bitch Better Have My Money (Claude VonStroke Remix)
If you’re sick of this song, feel free skip it. But if you aren’t, this is a great remix with the classic CVS West Coast acid-house sound. A harken back to the old days of Dirtybird.

4. Doc Daneeka – Never Wanna Lose You
A disco + breakbeat hybrid, this is fabulous.

5. Mount Liberation Unlimited – Maiden Voyage
Wait until the real groove gets started around 3 minutes in. For some reason, this track makes me feel so hopeful, like anything is possible.

6. Lane 8 – Crush
You all know how much I looooooove Lane 8. So I’ll spare you the gushing. Safe to say, this kid is gonna be HUGE.

7. Bruce Trail – Bridgework
Reminds me of Nicolas Jaar a bit, with the patience in the build up, and the way everything weaves back together at the end.

8. Sandboards – Duneboys Theme
Just a chill deep house track that’ll make you wanna move.

9. N.Y.T.A – Two Know
Entrancing, beautiful.

10. Bob Moses – Like It Or Not (Joris Voorn Remix)
The best for last! One of my favorite songs from last year gets remixed by one of my all-time favorite remixers. Voorn gives an emotional, deep treatment to an already stellar track.

S2D2 Vol 72

1. TLC – No Scrubs (Antra Remix)
This remix makes me smile. Fun stuff!

2. Ordnry Yngstr – Feels w/ HXNS
Just a delightful tune. Summer vibes

3. Girl Unit – Wut (Harmful Logic Bootleg)
One of the most classic UK club songs of the past 10 years gets a bootleg remix that slows it down and cranks up da bass.

4. Machinedrum – Angel Speaks (ft. MeLo-X)
You can always count on Machinedrum to make a unique sounding track. He’s moved towards a new sound lately, a bit poppier, a bit more accessible, but always top quality production. This song is gonna be huge.

5. Justin Timberlake – Ladies (Casual Connection Boogie Funk Rework)
Been digging these Casual Connection reworks, and you really can’t go wrong making a JT tune into a funk tune.

6. The Chemical Brothers – Go (Claude VonStroke Remix)
Pretty sure The Chemical Brothers are actually a drug in music form — every damn time I hear a track, adrenaline starts rushing through my body. This remix from Dirtybird’s CVS preserves the original rush of “Go” but morphs it into a totally different song. Love the slowdown in the last third.

7. Yotto – The Owls
This song is everywhere all of a sudden, and it’s easy to see why.

8. Elk Road – Not To Worry ft. Governors (TÂCHES Remix)
Really liking what I’ve been hearing from TÂCHES. The second half of this track in particular. Yum!

9. SoDown – Same Same
Because it’s summer, and in the summer, we love the feel good stuff.

10. Tycho – Division
NEW TYCHO!!!

S2D2 Vol 65

This week is front loaded with some techno that’ll get your adrenaline going, then we dip into UK bass-land for a bit, and come back to Earth with some jazzy, organic tunes.

1. Claude VonStroke – Who’s Afraid of Detroit (Marc Houle Remix)
I can barely believe it’s been 10 years since the original track came out. To celebrate, Dirtybird (CVS’ San Francisco-based label) is putting out four remixes. This is the first. Can’t wait to hear CVS’ remix!

2. Degray – Mainframe
Turn tha bass up and drown in this one. There’s a bit of Detroit in this one as well. Whewwwww!

3. George Fitzgerald – Fig. 1.2
George drops some seriously heavy techno, a nice departure from his usual style (which I love, but it’s always great to try something new). This is some heavy Berlin techno and I cannot wait to hear it on a club soundsystem. Maybe Scuba will play it in San Francisco this weekend? 🙏

4. Audion – Destroyer
Matthew Dear’s Audion alias is back after like, forever, with a new track off an upcoming album called Alpha. There’s a lot going on here!

5. Joker – Planet D
Alllll the OG dubstep guys have been releasing dope shit in 2016 so of course Joker had to drop one of the coolest bass tunes I’ve heard this year. Alien bass music.

6. Dabin – Hold ft. Daniela Andrade (Fred V & Grafix Remix)
I love the original song so much, those vocals… 😍 Anything that brings this song back into my life is a-ok with me, and this remix changes it just enough while retaining the spirit of the original track. Chill, dreamy drum n bass is having its moment for sure.

7. Skit & Klimeks – Azimuth
A lush soundscape, perfect for getting high to.

8. Justin Jay & Friends – Let Go ft. Josh Taylor
Another Dirtybird boy, though this song is out on Soul Clap Records. Justin Jay has been one of my favorite producers over the last year or so and continues to put out fresh-sounding stuff. This is a fun one.

9. Seb Wildblood – Nothing
More chillness from the Church label head Seb Wildblood. I love the lush-ness of the synths in this one.

10. Floating Points – Kuiper
Not much to say about this song except for “praise our lord and savior Floating Points.” This 18 minute tune will blow you away. Feel free to listen 10 times in a row, I won’t judge because that’s my plan for the rest of the day.
